London police say that one person was killed in a collision involving an SUV and a motorcycle on Hamilton Road Sunday evening.

A witness told CTV News that around 6 p.m. a SUV was turning left from Hamilton Road to head southbound on St. Julien Street when it collided with an eastbound motorcycle.

The motorcycle rider was thrown from the bike. Initial reports from the scene were that the rider did not have vital signs. Police have since confirmed that the male motorcyclist was pronounced dead on scene.

The female driver of the SUV was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police shut down the intersection to investigate but have since re-opened the road ways. There is no word on any possible charges at this time.

The impact of the crash may have damaged a natural gas line at a neighbouring property. Witnesses reported the smell of natural gas and Union Gas was subsequently contacted.
