Perth County OPP officers are currently investigating an alleged child luring incident in Listowel.

The investigation revealed that on Monday around 3:30 p.m. an 11-year-old girl was walking home from school when she was approached by a stranger near the intersection of Nichol Avenue South and Main Street East.

Police say a white van pulled up alongside the girl whereupon a passenger in the van opened up the passenger side door, called out to the girl and offered her candy if she were to take a ride with him.

The young girl kept her distance, refused the offer and took off running home and immediately reported the incident to a parent.

Patrols were made of the area however the suspect vehicle and suspects in the van have not been identified.

The suspect is described as a white man, possibly in his 30’s, with a brown beard. He was wearing a black ski mask, large black hat, black winter coat, black snow pants, black mitts and black boots.

The vehicle is described as a white passenger van, possibly an older model Ford Econoline or similar looking vehicle.

Several scratches and rust spots were observed on the passenger side door.

The van was equipped with large side mirrors.
