St. Thomas police have charged a 34-year-old man with robbery and other charges after he allegedly put a knife to the neck of a taxi driver in the city on Wednesday night.

The driver, with Red Line Taxi, suffered minor injuries to his hand.

Police said at about 10:30 p.m., the driver picked up a fare at an East Avenue address. The man asked to be taken to the hospital.

Before arriving there, police said the man pulled out a knife and asked for all of the driver’s money.

After a struggle, the suspect fled the scene, but was found two hours later with the help of the OPP canine unit.

Todd Hanes is charged with robbery, transportation fraud and breach of an undertaking.

He is in custody.
