Middlesex OPP officers say a 42-year-old man hit a cruiser while attempting to flee police.

Police were responding to a separate call on Sunday at 6:58 p.m. on Oneida First Nation when officers say a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck drove through an intersection without stopping.

The vehicle attempted to flee the scene when officers tried to stop it, police say. Moments later the truck allegedly struck a second police vehicle before entering a ditch and becoming stuck.

The driver and his passenger were arrested at the scene. No serious injuries were reported and the police cruiser sustained minor damage.

Duane Nicholas, 42, of Oneida First Nation was charged with:

  • Fail to Remain at Scene of Accident
  • Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle / Alcohol-
  • Exceed 80 Milligrams Blood Alcohol Content / Motor Vehicle -
  • Disobey stop sign - fail to stop

He has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in a London court room on Oct. 24.

The adult female passenger was released unconditionally.
