LONDON, Ont. - A 32-year-old London, Ont., man has been charged after police allege a number of metal vases stolen from a cemetery were taken to a recycling company for cash.

London police say they received a call from a specialized recycling company who reported that a man had come in with numerous vases and turned them over for cash.

Police say an investigation determined the vases had been stolen from a local cemetery, where they had been used to hold flowers at plots.

It's alleged that the same man later returned to the recycling company with about 20 more vases.

Police say 39 vases worth about $600 apiece were later recovered.

Andrew Alpaugh is charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000.

London police say they are telling local scrap dealers to notify them immediately if anyone attempts to sell such items, adding they will take a zero-tolerance approach to such offences.
