A man was arrested without incident following a standoff in a high rise in the north end of the city Wednesday evening.

Police responded to 349 Wharncliffe Road after a call from the Humane Society regarding animal cruelty.

The investigation took a turn a man fire shots from an undisclosed type of weapon and locked himself in his apartment.

Police told neighbours to keep their distance as they could be in range from the balcony of the unit on the seventh floor.

Just after 9 p.m. the suspect was arrested without incident.

No injuries have been reported.
