Both directions of Highway 401 were closed on Sunday evening as London police and OPP investigated a weapons complaint.

Around 4:40 p.m., OPP West Region posted the closure on social media, citing both directions of the 401 were closed between Highbury Avenue and Westchester Bourne for the investigation.

The London Police Service also put out a post, notifying the public that its drone was out in the area of Old Victoria Road and Highway 401 for the incident.

As of 5:10 p.m., OPP confirmed both directions of Highway 401 had reopened.

Sources tell CTV News that residents in the area were called via phone and told to shelter in place. Police reportedly told them there was an incident on the bridge.

London police confirmed with CTV News that it was a weapons complaint and they were called to assist. Officers were able to clear the area and confirm there was no threat to public safety.

The investigation is still ongoing. Nobody has been taken into custody at this time.

No further details have been released.
