MLHU issues cold alert ahead of plunging temperatures

Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) has already issued a cold weather alert for Monday, with extremely cold temperatures expected to arrive in the Forest City.

According to MLHU, temperatures are projected to reach a frigid -19 C at night, with those cold temperatures projected to persist into Tuesday.

Cold weather alerts are issued my MLHU when temperatures are forecasted by Environment Canada to reach -15 C or lower, or a wind chill of -20 C or lower, or when Environment Canada issues a cold alert or cold warning.

It is recommended that of course the public does everything possible to avoid cold related illness or injury, recommending staying indoors, dressing appropriately when venturing outside, and covering exposed skin.

Another way to stay safe in cold weather is to drink warm fluids, but avoid caffeine or alcohol as they can result if loss of body heat, avoid strenuous outdoor exercise, and keep an eye on the forecast.
