The so-called "creepy clown" messages on social media which threaten harm at schools have attracted the attention of police services across Ontario and here in London.

London police are currently investigating at least one incident involving a post on an Instagram site.

Police are reminding the public that threats on social media could result in criminal charges.

They are encouraging parents to ensure their child's online behaviour is respectful and legal.

London Police Const. Bough said Secondary School Resource Officers and School Safety Officers are aware of the clown messages and “are working with local school boards to ensure that the students are safe.”

She warned whoever sent the messages that “there is a possibility that criminal charges may be laid.”

Valerie Nielsen, Associate Director, Learning Support Services, says the board will continue to work closely with police.

“Student safety is a major priority for TVDSB and we will identify and report any suspicious activity in and around our schools.”
