An investigation is underway after a man went to the London Health Sciences Centre's Victoria Hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound.

Officers were called to the emergency room around 2:20 a.m. Wednesday for an 18-year-old male who had been shot.

Police say the male is a resident of the Greater Toronto Area and arrived in hospital without the help of paramedics.

He underwent surgery and remains in hospital being treated for a non-life-threatening injury.

Investigators say so far they have few leads and no witnesses have been identified.

London police Const. Ken Steeves adds, "Our number one concern is public safety, there is somebody out there with a gun who has already shot somebody. We know there's people out there that have information in relation to this shooting and we're certainly encouraging them to come forward."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 519-661-5674 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
