A 22-year-old man has been charged with impaired driving and operating a vehicle with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in his blood after fleeing the scene of an accident and a police chase in London.

About 10:30 p.m. Sautrday, an off-duty London police officer saw a vehicle fleeing a collision scene on Wharncliffe Road near Barrington Avenue.

A male driving a 2006 Pontiac Pursuit struck a hydro pole, causing significant damage to the rear of his vehicle, police said.

The off-duty officer followed the vehicle south on Wharncliffe Road. London police became involved and stopped the vehicle at the intersection of Wilkins Street and Sandringham Crescent.

Jason Norman, the sole occupant of the vehicle was arrested and charged.
