London police have released details of the worst intersections for crashes in 2013 and say collisions are up over 2012.

There were over 10,000 collisions in the City of London in 2013, an increase of nearly 6 per cent over 2012.

Police say most of the collisions are preventable and many can be attributed to distracted, impaired and aggressive driving.

The collisions with the highest number of collisions in 2013 are:

  1. Wellington/Commissioners - 84 crashes
  2. Richmond/Oxford - 78 crashes
  3. Highbury/Oxford - 76 crashes
  4. Highbury/Hamilton - 74 crashes
  5. Adelaide/Oxford - 72 crashes
  6. Exeter/Wellington - 68 crashes
  7. Southdale/Wonderland - 65 crashes
  8. Highbury/Huron - 64 crashes
  9. Springbank/Wonderland - 62 crashes
  10. Cheapside/Highbury - 61 crashes

A rise in distracted driving is of special concern to police, who say 1,680 offence notices were issued for people holding or using a cell phone - a 45 per cent increase over 2012.

The number of charges laid in relation to impaired driving also increased by 14 per cent compared to the previous year.

Officials say they are committed to making city roads as safe as possible and are asking drivers to remember to focus on safe travelling, when out on  sidewalks, roads and highways.
