Just after 11 p.m. on Tuesday, crews were called to the home at 710 Southdale Rd east where the sprinkler system had contained the fire.

May residents were able to shelter in place while some were evacuated to a safe area of the building.

Deputy City Manager, Social and Health Development Kevin Dickins told CTV News, "No residents were displaced... all residents have been accommodated either by moving back into their own room, or temporarily in another room within the Home. We have returned to regular operations with some remediation activity underway. We are appreciative of the London Fire Department, first responders and the staff at Dearness Home who provided the utmost care and support to residents during this event.

The cause has been listed as improper discard of smoking materials.

No damage estimate has been released.
