A London-area teen has completed her swim across Lake Ontario for charity.

Komoka's Ashleigh Beacham swam 52.4 kilometres across Lake Ontario, arriving at Toronto's Marilyn Bell Park at about 7:30 on Sunday evening.

She had entered the lake at Niagara-on-the-Lake around 1 a.m. that morning.

The 15-year-old was raising money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southwestern Ontario, and had collected more than $8,000 before she even left shore.

Her inspriration was a five-year-old boy named Josh who's battling leukemia.

She says if he can do that, surely she can swim across the lake.

Her mom Karen Beacham is beaming with pride saying "You know she was tired at times, but she never faltered. She knew that if she dug in deep she knew she had to get here and she wasn't going to let Josh down."

Ashleigh's efforts will help send Josh to Walt Disney World
