Damage after a house fire in Komoka on Sunday afternoon is estimated at more than $250,000.

Two adults and two children escaped the blaze unharmed, and fire officials say there were working smoke alarms in the residence.

Still, it took firefighters from several stations an hour to put out the blaze at the two-story home at 22522 Komoka Road.

Heavy smoke and flames were visible on the first floor of the home when fire crews arrived.

The cause of the fire - which officials say originated in the basement - is unknown, but it is not considered suspicious.
