Second person arrested for theft of vehicle from Guelph driveway

The Guelph Police Service has made another arrest after a vehicle was stolen from a driveway in the city’s north-end earlier this month.

Officers were called to a home near Woolwich Street and Division Street on Jan. 3. A resident told police she had put her car keys on a table near her front door, but when she woke up the keys were gone and her car was missing.

A neighbour gave police security video showing a male suspect approaching the home. Shortly after, a vehicle was seen reversing out of the driveway.

Investigators later learned the car was involved in a collision just outside the city not long after the vehicle was seen leaving the property. A witness told police they had driven someone from the vehicle back into the city.

On Jan. 6, a 35-year-old Guelph man was arrested and charged with break and enter and motor vehicle theft.

Investigators also learned the suspect had used the stolen vehicle to pick up another man from a nearby address. Police said the second man was driving the car when the crash happened.

On Monday, a 56-year-old man from Eden Mills was arrested. Police said he currently had ten different driving prohibitions. He had been charged with possessing stolen property over $5,000 and ten counts of driving while prohibited.
