A Kitchener man is now $30 million richer and plans to share a big portion of his new fortune with his family.

“The kids and my grandchildren are the ones that are going to enjoy it,” Ashman Kennedy said Thursday, speaking to the media after picking up his $30-million cheque.

“All I tell them (is) ‘do not waste it.’”

Kennedy bought one of two winning tickets for the $60-million jackpot in last Friday’s Lotto Max draw.

The other ticket was sold in Toronto.

Kennedy said that he started calling family members as soon as he noticed “something strange” about how the ticket matched up to the lottery results.

While the 69-year-old plans to use some of the money to travel and “relax a little,” he says he’s giving most of his winnings to his family so they can “enjoy life to the fullest.”
