A Kincardine man has been identified as the deceased in an early morning collision near Port Albert, north of Goderich.

William Collins, 31, of Kincardine was pronounced dead at the scene.

Provincial police responded to the crash on Bluewater Veteran’s Highway between Sheppardton Line and Division Line Monday at around 5:20 a.m.

Police say they found a Suzuki Vitara resting on its roof in a nearby field.

Through their investigation, OPP have determined that at some time before 3 a.m. the driver of the Vitara was northbound on the highway when the vehicle drove off the east shoulder, striking a culvert and hydro poll – ultimately coming to rest on its roof in the field.

A post-mortem examination has been scheduled for Monday at London Health Sciences Centre.

The crash remains under investigation.

The highway was closed south of Port Albert all morning for the investigation but has since reopened.
