Former talk show host Jenny Jones is offering US$100,000 to a Londoner who is seeking to make a difference in the community.

Jones grew up in London and says she wants to give something back to her hometown. The Jones family ran Sophie’s Gown Shoppe for years (named after her mother) and Jones graduated from Central high school.

“As a little girl I loved going to Springbank Park, especially Storybook Gardens,” she says in a news release. “When I was old enough, I helped sell wedding dresses at my dad’s store.”

While her website says she has given millions of dollars to communities in need, this donation will be her largest to one individual.

Calling this her London Hometown Hero Project, Jones wants individuals with a passion for helping others to apply. Jones stresses that submissions must be carefully researched and include detailed costs.

“I’ll be looking for something that has long lasting benefits for the London community,” she says.

Jones will be the one selecting the winning entry.

Here is an outline of the project:

  • The funds must be used to pay directly for the project chosen.
  • The foundation will not make cash donations.
  • To qualify, you must be a Canadian citizen and a current London resident of at least five years.
  • Only one project or idea per person will be accepted.
  • Ideas can only be submitted using the official form on her website.
  • The deadline for submissions is September 15, 2015.
  • The final selection will be revealed by October 15, 2015.
  • The winner will not receive any money and depending on the project, may be expected to help coordinate or participate in the project.
