A St. Marys-area school community is rallying around an eight-year-old boy who lost part of his right lower leg.

On Sept. 18, Colton Hawkins was injured in a farming accident involving a harvester.

Colton was released from a London hospital Thursday, the same day his school, South Perth Centennial, held a fundraising day for him.

On Friday, the school presented a cheque for $630 to Colton's family and sent along encouraging words to the little boy.

The money raised will help with costs associated with his recovery.

A GoFundMe account has also been set up for the family, coordinated by Melinda Zurbrigg, with more than $9,000 already pledged.

On the account page, Colton's mother expresses her thanks to those who have contributed.

"I am completely floored by everyone's support. It has enabled us to focus on getting Colton back home."
