It’s the first human trafficking charges in the history of the London Police Service.

Two London residents have been charged with several human trafficking related offences after a pilot project and investigation by police.

Police initiated the project to respond to increased incidents in the London area.

Steven McDonald, 36, and Kristen MacLean, 31, both of London, have been charged with trafficking in persons by exercising control, receiving a financial/material benefit, from the commission of an offence, procuring illicit sexual intercourse, exercising control of a person for prostitution and live on avails of prostitution/victim over 18.

Both accused have also been charged with possession of a schedule I substance and possession of a schedule III substance.

McDonald has been also charged with attempt or procure person to be a prostitute, sexual assault x2, and giving an intoxicating substance to a person for sex.
