Grey County OPP officers say an employee with the Township of Georgian Bluffs was assaulted with a machete after speaking with a property owner about a bylaw issue.

Police were called to an address on Grey 1, east of Wiarton, around 2:28 p.m.

The alleged victim, an employee of the Township of Georgian Bluffs, attended the address to speak with the property owner regarding a bylaw issue.  Police say the resident became verbally aggressive and demanded the employee leave the property. 

Officers say the victim was walking away when he was assaulted from behind.  He fled to a neighbouring property where he was able to get help. 

The 46-year-old employee sustained minor injuries as a result of the assault.

At 5:05 p.m., police arrested the suspect outside his residence without incident. 

He was transported to hospital where he was treated for minor injuries which was the result of his earlier encounter with the alleged victim.

A 62-year-old Georgian Bluffs man is charged with assault with a weapon.

A bail hearing is scheduled for Sept. 22 in Owen Sound.
