Elgin County OPP say four people have been arrested after a robbery at the Talbot Variety Store on Springfield Road southeast of Aylmer.

Officers were called to the scene in Malahide Township around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday after reports two people had entered the store and demanded cash.

One suspect allegedly told the clerk they had a firearm, but no weapons were seen.

After receiving and undisclosed amount cash, the suspects fled in a white Ford Econoline van.

The vehicle was quickly located northbound on Imperial Road near Aylmer, but refused to stop for police.

It eventually drove into a corn field at the east end of Pine Street and four people then fled on foot.

Aylmer Police, OPP Canine, ERT and the OPP Crime Unit assisted in apprehending an 18-year-old male, two 19-year-old males and a 28-year-old female all from Ottawa.

The four suspects are scheduled to appear in a St. Thomas court on Friday and an investigation into the robbery continues.
