Former city councillor Roger Caranci announced he will run for mayor of the City of London during a press conference on Tuesday.

He made the announcement on his political future on the steps of city hall at 6 p.m.

Caranci was first elected to London council in 2000 and served as the councillor for Ward 4 and then the newly created Ward 1.

He served on a number of boards and committees during his time at city hall, including on the London Middlesex Housing Corporation, as a trustee for the London Public Library and on the board of the Covent Garden Market.

He chose not run again in 2010 and then ran unsuccessfully as a Liberal candidate in the London-Fanshawe riding in the 2011 federal election.

Caranci currently works as a real estate agent and consultant.

So far, the only other mainstream official candidate is Councillor Matt Brown.
