A 35-year-old man driving a stolen pickup truck allegedly hit a Middlesex County OPP cruiser while trying to flee police.

OPP officers say they saw a speeding pickup truck entering Highway 401 at Wellington Road on Thursday at 12:09 a.m.

Police discovered it was a Dodge Ram pickup that had been reported stolen from the City of London.

While trying to stop the truck, police say it struck an OPP cruiser and caused damage. The truck continued and entered a ditch at Highway 401 and Highbury Avenue, where the driver fled on foot.

After a brief foot chase, the suspect was arrested. An officer received minor injuries in the foot pursuit. The officer was treated and released from a local hospital.

Kyle Deschamps, 35, of no fixed address is charged with flight from a police officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, failing to remain at the scene of an accident, assault with a weapon and driving while under suspension.

Deschamps was remanded into police custody and is scheduled to appear in a London court room at a later date.
