Environment Canada has confirmed that a small tornado touched down near Clifford during Wednesday’s storms.

The weather agency says the EF1 twister had wind gusts up to 170 kilometres per hour and was responsible for the damage northwest of the town in the area of Minto.

There was major damage to a farm house, barn, grain bins and some sheds. The roof of a silo was blown away and a car parked at a farmhouse was also damaged.

There was also damage reported south of Ailsa Craig, including a roof ripped of a drive shed and launched into a barn.

A house in Flesherton was also damaged after a tree limb pulled hydro wires down on the home's roof and then caught fire. Nobody was home at the time.
