A 25-year-old female remains in critical condition Monday following a collision with a vehicle early Sunday morning on Highbury Avenue between Hamilton Road and Commissioners Road.

It happened about 2:30 a.m. and closed southbound lanes of Highbury Avenue for several hours.

Police have charged a 30-year-old woman, Ashley Brunelle of London, with driving with a blood alcohol level over 80 milligrams, causing bodily harm.

A court date for Brunelle has been set for Nov. 18.

The identity of the cyclist, who is in the London Health Sciences Centre, is not being released.

Police are asking anyone with information to call 519-661-5680.

Meanwhile cycling advocates are reminding people that there are some routes cyclists should avoid for their own safety.

Cycling instructor Chris Helwig says "You've got to assume every car out there is a danger to you...I wouldn't ride on any part of Highbury, at any time of the day probably."

He adds that riders should make themselves as visible as possible, with safety vests, reflectors and front and rear lights.
