LONDON, ONT. -- London police and a distraught father are asking for the public’s help after the ashes of the man’s daughter were stolen from his vehicle.

Police were called to the area of Langarth Street and Wortley Road on Friday, in relation to a suspicious vehicle that was reportedly parked on the street with doors left open.

When police arrived on scene, they located the black SUV, and its owner.

He told police someone had broken into his vehicle overnight and stolen his deceased daughter’s ashes.

The father is in the process of moving and had left a box containing the ashes on the backseat overnight.

“We found my daughter’s remains were missing, from her box that was in the backseat,” he says.

Police say the box that held the ashes was left behind, with only the clear bag containing ashes removed, along with some cash.

Now the father is pleading for the return of the ashes, “No questions asked, I just want her back. She was a stillbirth so they are very important to me.”

While there is no suspect information in relation to this theft, police are also appealing to the public for any information.

Deputy Chief Stuart Betts of the London Police Service put out a personal plea on Friday, tweeting, "The value to the person who took them is nil, but to the family, the value is beyond measure."

Anyone with information is asked to call the London Police Service at 519-661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
