A family had to be rescued from Lake Erie Saturday after running into difficulty with their inflatable raft.

Norfolk OPP responded to a call from a concerned citizen at 6:14 p.m. at Woodstock Avenue, Long Point.

OPP say four adults and a child from Brampton entered the water without lifesaving equipment.

They were struggling to make it back to shore.

Norfolk fire services used a Zodiac water rescue boat to retrieve the five people from the lake.

The OPP is warning anyone considering boating to be cautious and to have lifesaving equipment required by law on board.

“Don’t take unnecessary risks with your life, or those whose job it is to save you," says Norfolk OPP Const. Ed Sanchuk.
