An inmate from the Elgin Middlesex Detention Centre who was rushed to hospital on Monday has died, CTV News has learned.
London police have now launched an investigation, after the inmate reportedly attempted to hang himself.
The death of the man, who had been in segregation, may trigger a Coroner's inquest.
He was reportedly found hanging in his cell by correctional officers.
A representative of OPSEU, which represents corrections officers on site, says the situation was terrible for all involved. "It's a traumatic experience," he says.
An internal investigation is also underway.
