$50K in copper tubing stolen from northern Alberta business

Police have arrested one person and are searching for another in the theft of $50,000 in copper tubing.

The theft of the tubing was reported to Wood Buffalo RCMP on Jan. 13 by a Fort McMurray business.

Surveillance video from the business shows a blue Chevrolet Cruz entering the yard at the business in the early evening hours of Jan. 12.

Two people wearing balaclavas can be seen stealing the tubing before leaving the area.

Two search warrants executed on Jan. 17, one on Arabian Drive in the Prairie Creek area and one on Demers Drive in the downtown area, led to the recovery of the tubing.

A 28-year-old Fort McMurray man was charged with theft over $5,000 and possession of break-in instrument.

He has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Fort McMurray on Feb. 12.

Police are still trying to identify the other person responsible for the theft.
