Charges are expected to be laid against a Sarnia boy after an early morning joyride resulted in severe damages to a house.

Around 2:30 a.m. Monday, Sarnia police say a 16-year-old boy took the keys to his parents' 2016 Dodge Challenger without permission and drove away.

The parents called police to alert them that the car was gone.

A short time later, the car was seen driving eastbound on Cathcart Boulevard and across Modeland Road.

Police say the vehicle drove across the front lawn of a home and then slammed into the front of the house, drove through the home and onto the back patio.

Nobody was home at the time of the crash.

The house sustained significant damage and is being assessed for structural integrity.

The driver remains in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation continues.
