Police and firefighters in hazmat suits continued their investigation of an allegedly "dormant" drug lab in the city's east end on Wednesday.

The townhouse drug synthesis lab inside Unit 154 at 1199 Hamilton Road was discovered after a search warrant was executed.

Neighbours say police were called to the unit Tuesday afternoon after a routine maintenance inspection of the condo aroused suspicion.

Emergency crews responded to the scene around 3 p.m. but quickly determined there was no risk to public safety and secured the scene.

Health Canada has alsoo attended the scene and police say an assessment of the evidence is ongoing and the investigation continues.

Still, neighbours expressed concerns that the lab could pose an explosion or fire risk.

Neighbours say a woman, believed to be in her 60s, has lived in the townhouse for more than a decade.

They say her adult son has lived with her, on-and-off, during that time.

They say the woman has been in hospital after suffering a broken hip and the son hasn’t been seen for a number of weeks.
