MIDDLESEX CENTRE, ONT. -- An excavator has been brought in to begin demolition of a portion of the Teeple Terrace building that partially collapsed on Dec. 12, 2020.
Two men died and several more were injured when a section of the four-storey building under construction collapsed.
Some work on the site resumed last week, but the Ministry of Labour retains control of the area of the collapse.
In an email statement, the ministry said there are no concerns regarding structural stability and work can continue on other areas of the site.
"The ministry has control of part of the site where the collapse occurred and is not responsible for other parts of the site. Our investigation is ongoing."
An inspector and engineer from the ministry visited the site on Feb. 19 and issued three requirements, two to BECO Developments (London) Inc. and one to supplier ISpan Systems LP.
