London police say a 17-year-old cyclist hurt in a collision on Saturday has died of his injuries.

The crash happened just after midnight on Saturday at Wellington Road and Bradley Avenue.

Investigators say the cyclist was heading eastbound through the intersection when he was struck by a northbound Honda Civic.

Ricardo Duarte of London suffered serious injuries in the crash and passed away on Thursday evening.

An investigation into the crash continues, but police say they do not expect any charges will be laid.

Family, friends in mourning

Friends of Duarte, a well-known London BMX rider, have set up a fundraiser to help his family with funeral expenses.

Bobby DeMelo says he saw the terrible aftermath of the accident, and then saw his friend in hospital, "Why should it be him, he had his whole life ahead of him. Nothing like this should happen to anybody."

They are also trying to spread a message of safety, and many are being more safe themselves, wearing helmets while riding.
