It's a little lower, but residents in Howick Township are still going to take a heavy hit to the wallet at tax time.

Howick Township council was able to whittle the municipal share of the region's tax increase down to 20 per cent from an initial 27 per cent.

Combining the county and education levies, ratepayers will see an overall seven per cent tax increase, which is about an extra $150 in taxes for 2015.

A group of local ratepayers say they are upset council didn't cut enough and fear many more double-digit tax increases are on the horizon unless "drastic" cuts are made.
