Shell Canada says it will be cutting an unspecified number of salaried positions at its refinery south of Sarnia next year.

Spokesman Randy Provencal says he can't get into numbers but the reductions at the Corunna site will affect employees like engineers and office support staff and not hourly workers.

Provencal says the company is making the cuts in order to ensure the manufacturing site remains competitive.

The plant has 350 full-time employees and a capacity of 75,000 barrels of crude oil daily.
