Crashes close two stretches of Highway 401 in southwestern Ontario

Multiple crashes closed Highway 401 eastbound at Foldens Line in Oxford County and from Comber Sideroad to the eastbound service centre in Essex County on Friday.

There are reports of minor injuries as a result of the crash west of Woodstock, and that dozens of vehicles, including a tractor-trailer, may have been involved.

OPP say the highway is expected to remain closed for several hours for an investigation.

Meanwhile in Essex County, OPP closed the eastbound lanes of the highway around 10:45 a.m. after a tractor-trailer lost a wheel, which hit a car. Both drivers reportedly suffered minor injuries.

All lanes were reopened around 1 p.m. after the debris was removed from the road but the investigation continues.

Further north, Huron County OPP closed Harriston Road (County #87) from Harriston to Bluevale due to poor weather conditions.

OPP are reminding drivers to slow down and check weather reports before heading out by calling 511 or visiting the Ministry of Tranportation website for road conditions.
