Craig Pickering, a former special constable working at the courthouse in London, has been sentenced to 30 days of house arrest for assaulting a prisoner.
Justice Lloyd Dean sentenced Pickering to the conditional 30-day sentence on Monday.
Pickering was convicted in June of assault causing bodliy harm after an altercation with Timothy Van Dusen in a May 2013 inside a cell under the courthouse.
The defence had argued Pickering used reasonable force, but the judge took issue with the testimony provided and said he went too far, referencing the surveillance video in the case.
Van Dusen, who acknowledged having a history of violence and mischief, was injured in the altercation. A separate civil suit filed by Van Dusen against London police was settled in April.
Pickering - a 12-year veteran with an exemplary record - was let go by London police shortly after the incident.
