Taxes for Londoners are going up, but Thursday night's council meeting will finalize just how much more residents will have to pay.

Council is taking one last crack at balancing the city budget and some last minute chages could happen.

Mayor Joe Fontana told council at the start of the meeting he won't support the proposed tax hike of 3.2 per cent, which would see the average homeowner pay an additional $77.

He says he wants the tax increase below three per cent before the end of the night, but it's not clear how he'll get there.

And while Fontana moved several motions to find reductions as the evening began, they were each shot down by council.

Council is continuing to go through the budget department by department looking for additional savings.

A three per cent hike would mean a tax increase of no more that $68 for the average homeowner.
