Council made public late Tuesday that City Hall is facing two new investigations by the Ontario Ombudsman after complaints were filed regarding a pair of closed door meetings.

The first meeting was in May 2016 in relation to the hiring of Greg Steward as Council’s Integrity Commissioner.

The second complaint was over a closed door meeting held last month prior to the release of the integrity commissioner’s report on Mayor Matt Brown’s affair with Councillor Maureen Cassidy.

Earlier in the year Council received a slap on the wrist after the Ombudsman found that the front door of City Hall was locked with a public meeting was underway during the inside workers’ strike.

The Ombudsman does not have the power to punish council if any Municipal Act violations are discovered.

The Investigations were only made public after Council approved a new policy to notify the public of any current or future Ombudsman investigations.
