A truck driver is facing charges after a spill of chicken trimmings caused a road in Perth County to be closed for several hours.

Around 9:15 p.m. Tuesday members of the OPP were forced to close a stretch of Perth Line 56 east of Perth Road 119 due to slippery conditions.

According to police a Volvo truck loaded with the trimmings was forced to break suddenly to avoid another vehicle. The quick stop caused the load to be spilled.

The Spill Action Centre and the Ontario Ministry of the Environment were advised of the spill and a hazardous material technician oversaw the clearn-up.

The road has since re-opened and there were no injuries in the incident. A 44-year-old man from St. Marys is charged with ‘insecure load – commercial motor vehicle.’
