London police have upgraded charges against the driver involved in a crash on the Western University campus that killed 18-year-old Andrea Christidis.

Christidis died two days after being struck by a car while walking on Lambton Drive, south of University Drive, on the night of Oct. 7.

Police say a northbound vehicle lost control, jumped the curb and struck Christidis, who was walking on the sidewalk.

As a result of her death - and following continued investigation - Jared Dejong, 24, is now charged with:

  • impaired driving causing death
  • operate motor vehicle over 80 mg of alcohol per 100 mL of blood causing death
  • criminal negligence causing death

He is scheduled to appear in court again in November.

Police say video captured of the collision scene shows several witnesses and passersby after the collision, and are asking anyone who saw what happened and has not yet spoken to the police to contact them at 519-661-5670.
