OPP have charged a 40-year-old London man following a crash on Saturday evening that occurred after a car fled from police.

The man is facing charges of impaired operation of a motor vehicle, failing to provide a breath sample, flight while pursued by a police officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and failing to comply with a probation order.

Middlesex County OPP were called to the eastbound Highway 401 near Wellington Road for a driver complaint, and pulled over the vehicle in question.

As the officer prepared to administer a roadside screening test, the driver fled from police, but shortly afterward rolled his vehicle at the Veteran's Memorial Parkway exit.

The driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries including several broken bones.

The OPP say their investigation has concluded, but Ontario's Special Investigations Unit continues.

The SIU is called in for incidents involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
