A new report says students will be facing an average 13 per cent increase in fees at Canadian universities over the next four years.

The Canadian Centre of Policy Alternatives gave Newfoundland and Labrador top marks for having the lowest tuition and compulsory university fees.

Ontario, on the other hand, led the provinces with the highest fees -- which are expected to reach 95-hundred dollars in 2017-18.

The Canadian Federation of Students says the high cost of getting a diploma is a major stress for students and their families.

Spokeswoman Jessica McCormick says students can't plan for how much they'll have to pay in the fall when tuition fees are going up.

She says many students are working all through the year and still have to take out loans to cover the costs.
