She's playing two iconic characters this season at Huron Country Playhouse.

Reality TV actor Jayme Armstrong is playing Maria in The Sound of Music and Mary in Mary Poppins.

Armstrong, a Top 3 finalist on the television show, How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?, is pleased to be performing at the Grand Bend theatre, run by Drayton Entertainment.

"Drayton has done such a fantastic job creating these destinations where you can go and have dinner and enjoy the town that it's in," she says.

A Grand Bend actor, Anna Bartlam, plays Marta von Trapp and her real-life younger sister, Lilly Bartlam was chosen for the role of Gretl. David W. Keeley is cast as Captain von Trapp.

"For me, it's a play about re-awakening the spirit of this man who does love his children and his wife, but he was crushed by the death of his wife," Keeley says.

Adds Drayton Entertainment artistic director Alex Mustakas: “The Sound of Music is the perfect example of a production that balances intrigue, romance, humor and emotion."

The production is on now and runs until June 22 with eight shows a week.

The 42nd season at Huron Country Playhouse is also offering  Spamalot, Buddy - The Buddy Holly Story, Too Many Cooks and Mary Poppins.

At Playhouse II is Tuesday With Morrie, beginning June 26, Weekend Comedy and Sorry…I’m Canadian.
