A London Transit Commission driver was able to talk a would-be bus thief off the vehicle Monday morning at White Oaks Mall, police say.

LTC General Manager Kelly Paleczny confirmed somebody tried to drive off with the bus, but left the scene without incident.

“There was a member of the public who tried to drive the bus away,” she says.

The incident happened around 9:30 a.m. when the bus unloaded at the mall and the driver also stepped off.

At that point, someone entered the bus and tried to get it in gear. The bus driver was able to convince the person to leave.

“There were no injuries. Nobody was on the bus,” Paleczny says.

It is unclear what the bus driver said to the person who was attempting to take it.

“I haven’t seen the details,” Paleczny says.

Police say that the driver called police after the incident and continued the route.

Both police and the LTC are investigating.
