The London man acquitted on a second-degree murder charge in the shooting death of Thi Tran was sentenced on a weapons charge Tuesday.
Last fall, a jury found Denzel Borden, 22, acted in self defence when Tran came at him holding a tire iron outside K's Sports Lounge & Grill in October 2011. They found him not guilty.
He was back in court Tuesday to learn his sentence on a related weapons charge, which was five years. As Borden has been in custody for more than four-and-a-half years years, he be free in six weeks.
In handing down the sentence, Justice Helen Rady said she didn’t think he was telling the truth on the night in question.
“I accept Mr. Borden’s expression of remorse for the way things turned out,” she told the court. “I do not believe Mr. Borden’s evidence.”
She called his story “incredible.”
