After just over two days of deliberations, a jury has found Denzel Borden not guilty in the 2011 shooting death of Thi Tran.

However, 22-year-old Borden was convicted on weapons charges in connection with the gun used in the shooting.

The shooting happened on Oct. 11, 2011 at K's Sports Bar on Clarke Road at Culver Drive.

Tran, 40, was reportedly having drinks with friends when he began to believe someone had tampered with their car in the parking lot.

Tran and a friend left the scene, but returned quickly armed with a tire iron, which is when he was involved in a confrontation with Borden and his friends and was shot in the chest. He died in hospital.

The verdict comes after four weeks of testimony and a charge from Justice Helen Rady to decide "Whether the force used by Mr. Borden was necessary," adding "Use your common sense."

Jurors had to decide between the Crown's assertion that this was a case of murder and the defence who claimed it was a case of self-defence.

Borden was held in custody and a date for sentencing will be set on Nov. 18.
