A body found along the shores of Lake Erie in Port Stanley on Tuesday morning has been identified as 65-year-old Antonio Romao of London.

A local resident out for a walk discovered the body lying on the rocky shore just west of Little Beach shortly after 10:30 a.m. and called police.

Elgin County OPP say it appears he had been fishing from the shoreline at that location when he died as fishing equipment and other personal effects were found nearby and Romao's vehicle was parked in a nearby lot.

Romao had last been seen by family around 2 p.m. on Monday.

Police say they do not suspect foul play and the investigation indicates the body had not been in the water nor had it washed up on shore from another location.

A post mortem examination is scheduled for Wednesday at University Hospital in London to determine a cause of death.

Police confirm that this incident is not related to last week’s search for a possible missing person off the west break wall in Port Stanley.
